This is now the third time within 14 months that I have had to file a claim with the insurance company. I was woken up at 4:22 am when I heard an alarm going off, of course that's not all that rare, I assumed it was a car on the street and I went back to sleep. Little more than three hours later I came down the stairs into the "secure" underground parking of my building to discover this little $422 mess of broken glass, gouged weather stripping and dented chrome. Oddly enough nothing was even taken from the car, the alarm and the sound of the footsteps of the building manager coming down the stairs must have scared off the guy before he explored the car for any loose change.

New list of things to be done

Like all semesters at school, this current semester is proving to be a bit of a challenge. However it's not just for me, but for the 560SEL as well. So here is what I'll be doing once the Christmas holidays come and I have a bit of free time.

Bumper touch up - someone, who most likely is incapable of using mirrors, backed into my front bumper at a 90 degree angle creating a few annoying scrapes which will need some attention.

Tie Rods - or something that causes a bit of play in the steering as well as a subtle clunk at low speeds while turning the wheel

Major Detail - the car isn't filthy, but just requires a deep down clean. The light grey interior shows stains easily, and the carpets should be shampooed. Over all I think I'll go over the car with a tooth brush.

Dent Repair - another dent has been discovered on the driver's door, only visible in certain lighting conditions, but it can be seen from 15 metres away. This makes for three dents overall that I will look into repairing.

Chrome Replacement above the driver's window - Recently someone tried to break into the car in an underground parking lot of a downtown shopping mall. It looks like they attempted to pry the window, which put a small, but ugly dent into the chrome above.

And to give you a mileage update, I am currently just under 108,000km.

To know what music belongs in a 560SEL, you have to look at the driving characteristics of the car. With it's long wheelbase it offers relaxed cruising, but the 5.6 litre engine enables it to behave like a stampeding bull. Anything with a beat over 60 beats per minute just doesn't suit the car while wafting home, but when you do have the pedal down it's nice to have music emphasize the mechanical characteristics of the car. The third thing to consider is the car's age. Just listening to 80s music isn't the obvious answer but any music that expresses the 80s ideas about technology and sound works well. If it makes you think of an old betamax, then it belongs in the car.

Wenn jemand nach S-klasse Musik denkt, musst er/sie das Fahrverhalten ins Auge fassen. Der Lange Radstand sort für entspanntes Herumfahren, aber der große 5,6 liter v8 ist wie ein Bulle. Auch muss man nach den 80er Jahren denken. Wenn man Musik hört und denkt von Betamax, dann passt diese Musik zu dem 560er.
